Were Neanderthals really redheads?

There has been a lot of discussion in recent weeks about new research which claims to have discovered that at least some Neanderthals had red hair. If you’re interested in finding out more about this, and being taken through some of the more technical details in a step-by-step fashion, I’d recommend John Hawks‘ recent blog on the topic of ‘The Flame-Haired Neanderthals‘. It’s well worth a read.

  1. I was very disturbed to learn that I’m a mutant. If only my genes functioned properly, I might have brown hair and less-easily-sunburned skin . . .

  2. It’s amazing what those mutant genes can do, isn’t it? *g*
